Main Entrance to the HBK, the Library to the Right

The Braunschweig University of Art (HBK) is an art university with a strong international focus. Since 1984 it owns the right to award doctorates and postdoctoral lecture qualifications. Around 1200 students are enrolled at the HBK in the study courses Fine Arts, Art Mediation, Performing Art, Aesthetics and Art History, Media Science as well as Communication Design and Industrial Design/Transportation Design. This makes the HBK the second largest art university in Germany. In Lower Saxony the Braunschweig University of Art is the only art university.

We support and encourage an open and productive interdisciplinary exchange. We aim to combine scientific, artistic and design aspects in all areas with shared events and projects. These interdisciplinary structures offer a unique chance for innovation. Hence study courses at the HBK are characterised by exciting interconnections which are also complemented by distinctive scientific research in all areas. Cooperation with well-known enterprises in Germany and abroad as well as partnerships with universities from all over the world ensure a prolific exchange of knowledge and a successful knowledge transfer.
