Art education requires qualified teachers – and to this end the course of study for ART.Education in schools will be established starting with the winter term 2012/13. It addresses itself to those wish to teach art at secondary schools and comprehensive schools on the basis of advanced artistic practice in order to enable school children to make their own aesthetic experiences and find an access to art, architecture and design.
Emphasis is placed in the study of the fine arts during the first six semesters of the eight-semester B.A. degree course. In the basic and specialised classes you will develop, observe and discuss your work with Fine Arts students. You will become familiar with various studios and working techniques and prepare your own exhibitions and educational concepts.
Accompanying seminars in art education and art pedagogy, Aesthetics & Art History and Media Studies as well as design theory and design practice are aimed at a multifaceted exploration of all questions and contents of importance as regards art classes. You will make your initial educational experiences during internships in schools and museums and form approaches for your own projects.
Four your second teaching subject (German or English), you will be additionally enrolled at the start of your studies at the TU Braunschweig. It begins in the seventh semester and is considerably smaller in scope than the study of art.
The successful completion of the B.A. degree course of study is the basic prerequisite for a subsequent M.A. degree course at the HBK Braunschweig or another university.
To the extent that you want to teach at secondary schools or comprehensive schools, we offer an M.A. degree course of study for the subject combination art and German or English that opens the way to preparatory school service. The M.A. degree course of study encompasses a total of four semesters and is concluded with the Master of Education examination.
